What is a Brokerage Calculator?

Brokerage calculator is one of the most frequently used stock market calculators. Brokerage in this case refers to the commission charged by brokers to execute trades in stock markets using their platforms & services. While buying or selling of stocks, investors and traders have to pay a certain fee as brokerage along with other charges. Dhan Brokerage Calculator is a tool that gives you an upfront estimate of the brokerage that will be charged to you for carrying out any trade. It will help in calculating equity as well as F&O brokerage charges. Alongside, it will also compute other charges such as Stamp Duty, Exchange Transaction Charges, Securities Transaction Tax (STT) etc to help you get a holistic view of your net profit or loss in a trade after charges. Here are different types of charges in online trading that you must know before buying and selling shares online.

How does an online Brokerage Calculator Work?

Brokerage is generally charged as a percentage of the trade value or a flat fee. This varies from broker to broker. At Dhan, our pricing model is as follows:

  • Account Opening, AMC & Platform Fees- Rs 0
  • Delivery Trade in Equity, ETFs & IPOs- Rs 0
  • Intraday Trade in Equity and All Futures- Rs 20 or 0.03% of trade value, whichever is lower.
  • Intraday Trade in Currency & Commodity- Rs 20 or 0.03% of trade value, whichever is lower.
  • For all segment Options: Rs 20 of trade value per executed order for equity, commodity & currency options.

To explain this with a basic example:Person A has placed an intraday buy trade of 50 shares of HDFC Bank at Rs 1520.The total value of this trade becomes Rs 1520 X 50 shares = Rs 76,000. Now, brokerage on this trade will be :Rs 76,000 X 0.03% = Rs 22.8 or Rs 20 whichever is lower. So Rs 20 in this case.To make the above calculations easier in case of complex situations, we have introduced the Dhan Brokerage calculator.
